Mumbai: In a major push towards transforming Maharashtra into a global education hub, the University of Bristol has formally announced plans to establish its first international campus in Mumbai.
The announcement was shared by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on X, following a meeting with senior leadership from the prestigious UK-based institution.
“Delighted to welcome Prof. Judith Squires (Acting Vice-Chancellor & Provost), Prof. Charl Faul (Associate Pro VC – Global Engagement), and Ms. Lucinda Parr (COO & Registrar) of @BristolUni as they formally announce plans to set up a global campus in Mumbai, their first campus outside of Bristol,” Fadnavis posted.
He added that the move marks a significant milestone in Maharashtra’s journey to becoming a centre for world-class education.
The University of Bristol is one of the UK’s leading research universities, consistently ranked among the world’s top institutions. Its entry into India through Mumbai is seen as a strategic step to deepen academic collaborations and offer globally aligned education opportunities to Indian students.

The development is being hailed as part of the broader #GlobalMaharashtra vision and dovetails with the state’s ambition to attract international universities, researchers, and talent.
“Their presence marks a major step in Maharashtra’s journey to become a global education hub,” CM Fadnavis said in the post.
While details about the launch timeline and course offerings are yet to be revealed, education experts believe this move could pave the way for other elite global universities to follow suit.
