A 45-year-old man was killed and an 18-year-old seriously injured in a tragic accident on the Eastern Express Highway during the early hours of July 6, after their motorcycle rammed into a container truck that had been dangerously parked on an incline near Vikhroli. The deceased has been identified as Bharat Mangilal Jain (Kothari), while the injured pillion rider, Jay Shankar Jain (Kothari), is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chembur.
According to the Vikhroli Police, the incident occurred around 12:10 am near the Narayan Bodhe Bridge in Vikhroli East. Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Narendra Govind Magar, who was on night duty with the Vikhroli Mobile Unit 1, received information about the crash from the police control room and rushed to the scene.
Investigations revealed that an Ashok Leyland container truck (RJ 40 GA 5978) had been left stationary in a hazardous position on the incline of the Narayan Bodhe Bridge, on the Eastern Express Highway, Vikhroli East, without any warning signs, reflectors, or lights to alert oncoming traffic.
The motorcycle (MH 02 FW 4512) carrying Bharat and Jay collided with the unlit, unmarked container. Both riders suffered severe injuries and were immediately rushed to Rajawadi Hospital. Bharat was declared brought dead by doctors, while Jay was later shifted to Zen Hospital in Chembur by his relatives for further treatment.
Police investigations revealed that the container driver had failed to implement any safety measures or warning indicators for approaching vehicles, directly contributing to the accident. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act.
