Mumbai Rains: BMC Works Tirelessly On Solid Waste Management Amid Heavy Rains In City (VIDEO)

Mumbai: Mumbai woke up to heavy rains on Monday morning as the monsoon continues to advance toward the city. Overnight downpours led to waterlogging in several areas, disrupting daily life for many residents. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified its efforts to manage solid waste and ensure the city remains clean and functional.

Various departments of the BMC, especially those involved in solid waste management and essential services, have been working on the ground around the clock. Sanitation workers are taking special care to prevent garbage from clogging drains and manholes, a common cause of waterlogging during the monsoon.

Despite the non-stop rainfall, these workers are striving to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in different parts of the city. Their efforts include clearing debris, ensuring smooth drainage flow, and preventing the spread of foul odours, all critical measures to minimise inconvenience to Mumbaikars.

The city’s transportation has taken a hit, with several local trains running behind schedule and some cancelled due to waterlogged tracks. Central Railway services, in particular, have been affected. Commuters are facing delays, but emergency teams from both the railways and the BMC are working to address the disruptions.

An X post shared by BMC stated, "In the wake of the ongoing heavy rains in Mumbai, officers and employees of various departments of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation providing solid waste management and other essential services are working on the ground."

Mumbai Wakes Up to Heavy Rains as Monsoon Arrived

Visuals from various parts of the city show intense rainfall lashing the streets, vehicles wading through flooded roads, and commuters navigating the weather with umbrellas in hand. Early morning scenes near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) captured thunderbolts flashing through the sky amid heavy showers and winds.

Significant waterlogging was reported in multiple locations across Mumbai from Masjid to Byculla, Andheri, and Churchgate. Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly as authorities continue to monitor the situation.
