Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh (MRPS) expresses its sincere gratitude to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for initiating the trial implementation of crucial crowd control measures at Mumbai’s railway stations. These measures, which have long been recommended by MRPS, mark a significant step towards enhancing passenger safety and reducing the risk of overcrowding-related accidents.
For several years, MRPS Vice President Siddhesh Desai and President Madhu Kotian have been consistently urging the Railway Board to take proactive steps to manage the ever-increasing rush at local stations, especially during peak hours. Their continuous advocacy has finally seen a positive response, and MRPS welcomes this initiative as a much-needed change for the safety and well-being of Mumbaikars.

While this implementation is a major milestone, MRPS suggests close coordination with the local police authorities to effectively manage crowds outside railway stations as well. The full impact of these measures will be seen over time, as commuters gradually adapt to the new system. Patience and cooperation from the public will be key in ensuring its success.
Furthermore, to encourage travel during non-peak hours and further ease congestion, MRPS strongly recommends the introduction of lower ticket rates for off-peak travel. This incentive can help distribute footfall more evenly throughout the day, reducing pressure on the system during rush hours.
MRPS remains committed to working collaboratively with authorities to ensure a safer, more efficient, and commuter-friendly railway system in Mumbai.
