Mumbai: Senior Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi visited the office of Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti on Tuesday to register his protest against the ongoing action being taken against loudspeakers installed at mosques.
Azmi’s visit comes in the backdrop of BJP leader Kirit Somaiya actively pursuing complaints regarding loudspeakers at religious places, particularly mosques, and demanding strict enforcement of noise regulations.
Abu Azmi, accompanied by a delegation, met the police commissioner to raise concerns over what he termed as “selective targeting” of one community.
“We are here to present our point of view and ensure that no community is unfairly singled out in the name of law enforcement,” Azmi reportedly told the media before the meeting.
The SP leader emphasized that while the party supports legal compliance, the rules must be applied uniformly to all religious institutions to avoid communal disharmony.
