Mumbai: A fresh arrest has been made in connection with the suicide of a woman named Gulshan Hashmat Khan (53) in Mumbai’s Byculla area. The accused has been identified as Shoeb Imtiyaz Khan (27). The case took a serious turn after her husband, Hashmat Ali Haider Ali Khan (63), lodged a complaint accusing Gulshan’s nephew Shoeb Imtiyaz Khan, his brother Zaid, and their mother Roshan Ara of abetting the suicide. Shoeb has been sent to police custody till May 28.
According to the complainant, Gulshan was his second wife and had allegedly been in an extramarital relationship with her nephew Shoeb. She reportedly left her marital home in December 2022 to live with Shoeb, taking approximately 65 tolas of gold with her.
Hashmat Khan further alleged that Gulshan and Shoeb were involved in financial fraud under the guise of offering loans, and that a complaint regarding such activities had already been filed with the Crime Branch. On April 2, Gulshan called Hashmat, alleging that Shoeb, his brother, and their mother were harassing her and had taken her jewellery and money. She reportedly told him she was contemplating suicide due to the ongoing harassment.
Later that month, Hashmat was informed of her death. Gulshan was found dead after allegedly falling from the bathroom window of her flat. During the investigation, police discovered suspicious bloodstains and missing belongings at the scene. CCTV footage showed Shoeb’s driver, Afzal Shaikh, leaving her home with items.
Afzal was arrested on April 30 based on forensic evidence and CCTV footage. Shoeb, who had been on the run, surrendered at the Agripada Police Station on May 24 and was subsequently arrested the same day. Police have registered the case under Sections 108 (abetment), 351(2), 3(5), 238, and 61(2) of the BNS. Further investigation is ongoing.
