In a proactive effort to enhance safety and readiness in the face of emergencies, the Civil Defence Organization of Central Railway successfully conducted a comprehensive mock drill at the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Mumbai.
"The exercise aimed to assess and strengthen the preparedness of both railway personnel and the general public in managing diverse emergency situations. The drill simulated various critical scenarios to test the effectiveness of safety protocols. One of the key elements was the activation of air raid sirens, followed by a demonstration of how citizens can ensure their safety by adopting proper precautionary measures, including the correct technique for assuming a lying down position to minimize risk during such alerts" said an official.

Another vital scenario addressed was the management of severe blood loss. "Trained personnel showcased life-saving techniques to minimize haemorrhaging in cases of serious injury, emphasizing the importance of swift action in critical moments.
The drill also covered fire safety protocols. Participants demonstrated how to handle a fire emergencies in the absence of a fire extinguisher, using alternative methods to control flames. Additionally, the correct operation of fire extinguishers for tackling different types of fires was demonstrated, ensuring that both railway staff and passengers are equipped with the knowledge to respond effectively" further added official.
The exercise saw the active participation of 30 well-trained civil defence volunteers from Central Railway, who played a pivotal role in the success of the drill.

Following the success of this exercise at CSMT, similar drills are being conducted across other significant railway stations and workshops on the Central Railway network, including LTT Mumbai, Dadar, Matunga, Manmad, and other key locations.
