Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is progressing with the implementation of the proposed twin tunnel project between Thane (Tikujiniwadi) and Borivali–Magathane. As part of this project, approximately 572 informal dwellings located in areas such as Rupvate Nagar, Milind Nagar, Pharlewadi, SRA projects, and footpaths in the Magathane region will be affected.

To ensure timely and unhindered completion of this critical infrastructure project, MMRDA has announced three resettlement options and requested all affected families to submit their written preference from among the following: First is Monetary Compensation: As per MMRDA’s monetary compensation policy, eligible PAPs may opt to receive financial compensation based on the area of their affected structures. Second is Permanent Housing: MMRDA will provide permanent housing units either in the Borivali Integrated Housing Complex or in the Rental Housing Scheme at Mira-Bhayander.

These units have been developed by M/s. Gujarat and M/s. Sonam Enterprises and will be allocated based on the choice of the affected families. Third is Rehabilitation through SRA Scheme: PAPs may also opt to be included in the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) project being executed by Bhardwaj Developers.

Under this scheme, they will be provided permanent housing at the same location after redevelopment. Until then, they will be allotted interim rental accommodation or alternate housing.

As per MMRDA they have formally informed all affected residents to choose one of the above options and submit their written application to the Authority without delay. Once applications are received, appropriate legal and administrative action will be initiated accordingly.
