The police are hunting for a man who allegedly duped a 24-year-old and his friend on the pretext of helping them secure government jobs. The identity of the accused has not been disclosed.

According to the police, the Navi Mumbai resident came to know about the accused through his elder brother last year. The latter introduced himself as a “liaisoner” and assured that he can help to secure government jobs, said the complainant.

He added that the accused took Rs2.5 lakh and promised to get him a job in the postal department. The aggrieved later learnt that the accused had also taken Rs1 lakh from his friend on the same pretext.

In April, the accused contacted the complainant and told him that he would get him a job in the Income Tax department. On May 30, the man and his friend met the accused outside the I-T office at Churchgate to hand over their documents.

However, the alleged fraud later started giving evasive replies, making them realise the fraud.
