Mumbai: One of the oldest bridges in Mumbai, Elphinstone bridge in that has been serving as the main route connecting various location to Prabhadevi has finally been shutdown for most awaited and much-needed demolition and reconstruction of the new Elphinstone Flyover and Shivdi-Worli Elevated Connector Flyover by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
Various routes will now have to be opted to reach locations. Worli connection through the Elphinstone bridge is one of the most affected routes, know alternatives.
Take Your Concerns To Mumbai Traffic Police
The traffic police in Mumbai has released a draft concerning the building of a new bridge following the removal of Elphinstone Bridge. In a recent X update from their official page, traffic police announced the draft. In the draft, Mumbai traffic police proposed extra alternate routes bypassing the Elphinstone Bridge. Authorities initiated conversations with community members to express their disapproval of the proposal. Residents may reach out to the Mumbai traffic police at the email address addlcp.traffic@mahapolice.gov.in by April 13 with any objections regarding the Elphinstone bridge draft.

For the next two years, approximately, residents can opt for these routes to reach Worli without Elphinstone Bridge:
To get to Prabhadevi to Worli from Madke Buwa Chowk, you have two primary choices. Option 1 requires traveling along Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road directly through Krishna Nagar Junction, Parel Workshop, Supari Bagh Junction, and Bharat Mata Junction. Next, make a right onto Mahadev Palav Road, go over the Currey Road Railway Bridge, and turn right at Shingte Master Chowk to access the Lower Parel Bridge.
The second option, however tricky is from Madke Buwa Chowk also proceeds straight along Ambedkar Road through Krishna Nagar Junction, Supari Bagh, Bharat Mata, and Sant Jagnade Chowk. From that point, make a right onto Sane Guruji Road, go over the Chinchpokli Railway Bridge, and turn right at Chinchpokli Junction to continue along N.M. Joshi Road. Moreover, if you are approaching from Sion/Matunga, turn right at Khodadad Circle (Dadar TT), proceed along Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Road, and arrive at your destination via Tilak Bridge, considering possible detours because of the Tilak Bridge Eastbound Closure.
Residents Speak Against Elphinstone Bridge Demolition
Many residents have raised objection over the demolition of bridge as the concern for congestion and increased traffic is leading issue, some have pointed out that the Sion bridge demolition and Tilak Bridge going under repairs will be cause of concern and MMRDA should plan to postpone the Elphinstone Bridge demolition.
