Mumbai: Hindu women hosted an iftar party for members of the Muslim community in Malad’s Malvani, setting an example of communal harmony. Hindu women prepared ‘puranpoli’ and ‘naralachi wadi’ at their homes and served them to the Muslim brethren fasting in the holy month of Ramzan.
As the members of Muslim community practice fasting from sunrise to sunset during the holy month of Ramzan, Malad’s Malvani village witnessed an example of communal harmony as Hindus participated in the religious practice of Muslims. A special iftar party was organised by Hindus for Muslims to break their fast in the evening.
On Saturday, a special interfaith iftar party was organised at ‘Safal Centre’ in Malvani’s Gujarati Chawl by Safal Vikas Welfare Society and Rashtra Seva Dal, Malvani. Local women and members of the organisations prepared puranpoli, coconut sweets and fruits for Muslim men and women who participated in the interfaith iftar celebration.
“We do such interfaith iftar party every year with the only motive of increasing communal harmony. People usually do not eat puranpoli or naralachi vadi for iftar but this was a confluence of cultures. Single women associated with the NGO served around 100 people from Muslim community. We also organise Eid Milan where Hindus bring snacks and Muslims bring Sheer Korma. The same way of celebration is carried out during Diwali as well,” Nisar Ali, president of Safal Vikas Welfare Society said.
