Mumbai: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police will file around 5,500-page chargesheet tomorrow, 14 August against Purushottam Chavan in connection with a multi-crore fake government quota housing scam.

Scam Details and Amounts

Chavan, arrested in May, is accused of duping at least 20 people of Rs 24.78 crore by promising them flats in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune under the state government’s quota at concessional rates. However, police sources said that since some victims were refunded, the net scam amount now stands at around Rs 19 crore.

Investigation Highlights

Investigators have recorded statements of 30 to 40 witnesses to strengthen the case. According to police, the fraud allegedly ran for almost a decade, with Chavan using his political connections and influence to gain the trust of victims before vanishing with their money.
