Mumbai: The Central Railway has announced temporary restrictions on the sale of platform tickets at key Mumbai stations. The decision was officially announced via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Central Railway's Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Mumbai account (@drmmumbaicr) on Wednesday.
The affected stations include Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), and Kalyan. The initiative aims to ease congestion and ensure smooth movement on platforms during the upcoming summer vacation. The restriction on the sale of platform tickets starts from April 18 to May 15.
The initiative is aimed at minimising overcrowding and ensuring the safety and convenience of passengers during the busy holiday season. By limiting access to platforms, authorities hope to better manage foot traffic and avoid delays or disruptions.
The post stated, "In view of the extra rush expected on platforms due to upcoming summer vacations, the sale of platform tickets has been restricted from 18.04.2025 to 15.05.2025 to avoid any untoward incident."

Central Railway has announced that starting April 16, 14 non-air-conditioned local trains will be upgraded to air-conditioned (AC) services. This move comes in response to a surge in passenger numbers and revenue, which saw a growth of over 30 per cent in 2024.
An official from Central Railway confirmed the update, stating, “Central Railway is set to replace 14 non-air-conditioned local services with air-conditioned local train services on the Main Line starting April 16, 2025.”
With this upgrade, the number of AC local train services on the Main Line will rise from 66 to 80 on weekdays, aiming to provide commuters with greater comfort, especially during Mumbai’s intense summer heat. Despite this change, the overall number of suburban services will remain steady at 1,810 trains per day.
