Mumbai News: BMC Intensifies Crackdown On Abandoned Vehicles, Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani Orders Ward-Wise Action With Penalties
BMC has decided to intensity it's actions to remove all abandoned vehicles and junk roadside, which creats unnecessary obstructions for pedestrians as well as motorists. BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani on Wednesday directed officials to take strict actions civic ward wise in collaboration with the external agencies appointed to remove scrapped vehicles.

Mumbai: BMC has decided to intensity it's actions to remove all abandoned vehicles and junk roadside, which creats unnecessary obstructions for pedestrians as well as motorists.
BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani on Wednesday directed officials to take strict actions civic ward wise in collaboration with the external agencies appointed to remove scrapped vehicles. He also directed to imply penalty to owners of abandoned vehicles and said that the objective is not to impose fines, but clear the roads from junk.
Since May, the BMC is working in coordination with external agencies to identify abandoned vehicles and junk roadside and the process for its proper removal and disposal. The commissioner added that special drive along with Mumbai Police should be conducted to intensity crackdown on roadside junk in the coming weeks.
Last month, the Bombay High Court had said had directed to all police stations in Mumbai to dispose of abandoned vehicles and free up the streets. "Mumbai’s streets, gasping for space, can no longer double as graveyards for abandoned vehicles," the HC had said.
