Mumbai: A 36-year-old pregnant woman has filed a complaint with the JJ Marg Police Station alleging theft of her gold jewellery and cash while she was admitted for treatment at Mumbai’s JJ Hospital. The woman, a resident of Chinchpokli and an operations manager at a call centre, was five months pregnant at the time of the incident.
According to the complaint, the woman had been admitted to Ward No. 29 of the hospital due to persistent vomiting and dizziness. She said a female hospital staff member handed her a note advising her to remove and store her jewellery safely.
Following the instructions, she wrapped her nose and ear ornaments in paper, placed them in her wallet, and then kept the wallet inside a larger bag under her bed.
Feeling weak, the woman fell asleep. Around 7:30 pm, a nurse came to request her Aadhaar card. Unable to get up, the woman asked a relative of another patient on bed number 6 to retrieve the card from her bag.
Later that evening, her condition worsened and she was temporarily moved to that bed. On June 13, she was shifted to the ICU. It was there she discovered that ₹3,500 in cash was missing from her bag while attempting to buy food.
The woman was discharged from JJ Hospital on June 19 and returned home. However, her condition deteriorated again and she was admitted to Sion Hospital, where she unfortunately suffered a miscarriage on June 29. Due to her physical and mental state, she was unable to file a police report immediately.
