Mumbai: The Maharashtra Nodal Cyber Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly making obscene phone calls and sending inappropriate messages to BJP leader and Maharashtra cabinet minister Pankaja Munde. The accused, Amol Kale, a student from Parli in Beed district, was apprehended in Bhosari, Pune on Tuesday Night.
According to police, the harassment had been ongoing for several days before BJP’s state social media coordinator Prakash Gade alerted Nikhil Bhamre (26), the social media coordinator at the BJP’s Maharashtra office, about the issue. Acting on Gade's suggestion, Bhamre filed a formal complaint with the Mumbai Nodal Cyber Police.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered under Sections 78 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the IT Act. Police used the caller’s mobile number to trace his location to Bhosari, where he was detained with help from the local police station. During questioning, Kale confessed to making the calls.
He was subsequently served a notice under the BNNS Act and brought to Mumbai, where he was formally arrested. Officials said the motive behind his actions is still being investigated.
