Mumbai: MNS, Sena UBT Unite To Protest Over Delay In Carnac Bridge Opening
Their united call was clear, stop delaying the inauguration for political optics and open the bridge for the people. The Carnac Bridge, connecting Crawford Market to P D'Mello Road, has been ready for nearly 20 days.

After continuous coverage and follow-up reports by The Free Press Journal, the long-pending Carnac Bridge issue has triggered a political response. On Wednesday, leaders and workers from Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) hit the streets, demanding the immediate opening of the ready-but-shut bridge.
The protest, held near Crawford Market, saw participation from Shiv Sena South Mumbai Division No. 11 Head Santosh Shinde, MNS Vice President Arvind Gawade, Women’s Division Organizer Yugandhara Salekar, and several other office-bearers. Their united call was clear, stop delaying the inauguration for political optics and open the bridge for the people. The Carnac Bridge, connecting Crawford Market to P D'Mello Road, has been ready for nearly 20 days.
However, as highlighted by FPJ’s campaign, the delay is reportedly due to ministers not finding time to inaugurate the bridge. This delay has caused daily traffic nightmares for traders, shopkeepers and residents in the area. For the first time in recent memory, MNS and Shiv Sena UBT workers stood side by side during the protest.
However, the peaceful agitation saw heavy police deployment and several key leaders, including Santosh Shinde, Vikas Mavekar, and Raju Phodkar, were detained. The Free Press Journal’s constant spotlight on the issue played a key role in bringing public frustration to the political forefront, forcing leaders to take action and demand accountability. As the people’s patience runs thin, the spotlight now shifts back to the authorities—will they open the bridge or let politics keep Mumbai stuck in traffic?
