Mumbai: A delegation from Mumbai Masjid Federation met Mumbai Police Commissioner, Deven Bharti, on Thursday to submit a memorandum, raising concerns over the ongoing action against mosque loudspeakers and the alleged harassment of the Muslim community.
After a Bombay High Court ruling and a subsequent directive to the police to enforce noise pollution rules on places of worship, including mosques, the federation of mosques has accused politicians of targeting the community under the guise of enforcing the rules.
Mosque trustees said that while they will follow the ourt ruling, they believe that some politicians are spreading communal hatred by pressuring the police to file cases against mosques. Last week, Samajwadi Party leader, Abu Asim Azmi, said that punitive action is being taken based on complaints from politicians.
