Long-distance train services entering Mumbai from the Western railway line faced delays of nearly 30 minutes on Tuesday morning due to a crack on the railway track near Vaitarna railway station of Western Railway's Mumbai division.
The issue was reported at 7:30 am on the up-line and temporarily addressed by 8:00 am, allowing train movement to resume at restricted speeds, officials from Western Railway stated.
After receiving the information, railway personnel immediately clamped the affected portion of the track to ensure safety and continued operations. Confirming the development an official from Western Railway stated that the damaged rail would be permanently repaired later during a scheduled block.
"Several long-distance trains experienced delays due to this technical failure, with schedules pushed back by approximately half an hour. Apart from that, a few suburban local trains in Mumbai were also affected during the morning peak hours due to this problem," said a frequent commuter.
In a statement on its X handle (formerly Twitter), Western Railway updated commuters, saying, "WR's Mumbai suburban local trains and long-distance trains entering Mumbai are running late by 15-20 minutes due to a technical failure at Vaitarna Station."
