Dr Sangeeta Rawat, the hospital dean, stated, “As part of our centenary celebrations, we are launching this OPD-based facility. Fatty liver can lead to multiple organ complications. This specialised clinic, under the leadership of Dr Akash Shukla, head of the gastroenterology department, will initially operate only at KEM Hospital.”
Statement Of Dr Arun Vaidya
Dr Arun Vaidya, assistant professor, the gastroenterology department, said, “Diagnosis of excess liver fat is done through sonography and FibroScan. Regular exercises lasting 30-40 minutes can prevent this condition. Controlling hypertension, diabetes, and cholesterol is crucial. Treatments include endoscopy and surgery. However, these measures might not suffice, and a fatty liver epidemic could emerge in the coming years.”
Every Friday, between 1.30 pm and 3 pm, a special OPD will be conducted on the second floor of the new building by the gastroenterology department doctors. The doctors will also offer special counselling for fast recovery.
