In a startling case of matrimonial fraud, the Bhoiwada Police have registered a case against a 35-year-old man, Dhirendra Kumar Gautam, for allegedly deceiving a 30-year-old Central Railway technician into marriage by concealing his existing marital status. The accused reportedly cheated her out of Rs20.5 lakh in cash and gold jewellery, while being already married before, and after marrying a third woman, the entire matter came to light.
According to the FIR, the victim, a technician residing in Parel, originally hails from Madhya Pradesh, had divorced her first husband in 2020 after securing a job in Mumbai, with Indian Railways. Hoping for a fresh start, she registered on a matrimonial site in 2022. In January 2023, she was contacted by Gautam through Jeevansathi.com.
Gautam, introduced himself as a Post Graduate Teacher (Computer Science) at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Delhi Cantt, met the woman in Kalyan near Shahad railway station, he proposed marriage, convincing her he was single. Gautam told her that his job was being transferred from Delhi to Jaipur, but promised he would arrange a transfer to Mumbai after marriage. He claimed Rs3 lakh was needed to stop the transfer, and she transferred Rs1 lakh to him.
On March 10, 2023, Gautam married the woman at a small temple in Haridwar, claiming that his family wouldn't support a formal wedding. He later introduced her to a few relatives at Nizamuddin railway station, presenting them as witnesses to the marriage.
Following the marriage, Gautam continued to visit the victim in Mumbai and pressured her for money under various pretexts. Over the next year, she gave him Rs20.5 lakh in total—Rs14 lakh from her savings and the rest from her father and brother. She also handed over gold ornaments.
Despite the birth of their son on February 13, 2024, Gautam continued to demand money and allegedly became verbally and physically abusive when denied. Fearing for her and her child’s safety, the victim finally left for her maternal home on March 11, 2024.
When she attempted to reach out to Gautam’s family, they informed her that he was in jail due to a police case. She refused their request to help secure his bail, unaware of the reasons behind his arrest. A friend of Gautam later revealed that he had been arrested for duping another woman under the pretext of marriage.
On March 12, 2025, she visited Gautam's home, where he was present. When she demanded her money back, he allegedly assaulted her and drove her away, retaining her wedding jewellery. She also learned from neighbors that Gautam had been married at least two other women.
Investigations revealed Gautam’s first marriage took place in 2016, and he was booked in a domestic violence and dowry harassment case in 2021 by his first wife at Kotwali Police Station. In April 2023, he allegedly married another woman, again hiding his previous marriages, and cheated her out of Rs45 lakh. In 2024, she filed a complaint at the Kotwali Police Station.
The woman has since lodged a formal complaint against Gautam and his parents at the Bhoiwada Police Station, accusing them of cheating, mental and physical abuse, and issuing threats of framing her in false cases.
The police have registered a case and further investigations are underway.
