Mumbai Fraud: Dahisar Diamond Polisher Booked For Cheating Borivali Trader Of ₹58.10 Lakh

Mumbai: The Lokmanya Tilak Marg Police have registered a case against a diamond repairing and polishing businessman from Dahisar, identified as Ramesh Vagasia, for allegedly cheating a Borivali-based diamond trader of diamonds worth Rs 58.10 lakh. The accused reportedly failed to return 160.61 carats of damaged diamonds given to him for repair and polishing.

Diamonds Given for Repair Not Returned

According to the police, the incident occurred between September 11, 2024 and October 26, 2024. The complainant, Mukesh Babulal Soni, 57, resides in Borivali and owns a diamond and gold jewellery business located at Dhanji Street in South Mumbai. As part of his business, Soni routinely sends damaged or poorly polished diamonds to specialists for restoration.

Accused Goes Incommunicado

Soni had entrusted Vagasia with 160.61 carats of such damaged diamonds, valued at Rs 58,10,602, for repair and polishing between September and October last year. However, Vagasia allegedly failed to return the consignment and stopped responding to communications, prompting Soni to approach the police and file a complaint.

FIR Registered Under BNS

Following a preliminary inquiry, the Lokmanya Tilak Marg Police registered an FIR under Sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is currently underway.
