Mumbai: The Azad Maidan Police have registered a case of forgery and cheating against three individuals — Ravindra Samanta, Abha Samanta, and Rakesh Samanta — for allegedly using forged documents and a fake signature in a writ petition submitted before the Bombay High Court.
The complaint was filed by Ruchita Ramakant Gaikwad, 48, a homemaker residing at Vision Crest Society on D.S. Babrekar Marg, Dadar. Gaikwad had stood as a guarantor for a ₹6 crore loan taken by the Samantas from Mumbai Bank. However, after the Samantas defaulted on the loan, recovery proceedings were initiated against Gaikwad’s assets.
Accused Allegedly Created Fake Letterhead, Signature
According to police sources, it was during this process that documents bearing Gaikwad’s forged signature surfaced. These documents were allegedly used by the accused in a writ petition filed before the Bombay High Court.
Police said the accused conspired to create a fake letterhead in Gaikwad’s name and fabricated documents carrying her forged signature, which were then submitted to the court.
Police Register FIR After Preliminary Inquiry
The forgery came to light during court proceedings, prompting Gaikwad to file a police complaint. Following a preliminary inquiry and after securing permission from the DCP (Zone 1), an FIR was registered.
Sub-Inspector Shah is leading the investigation, and senior officers have visited the Bombay High Court as part of the probe. Police are now working to determine how the forged documents were created and submitted.
