Mumbai: The Byculla Police seized drugs worth Rs.3.46 crore from a suspicious vehicle in the Byculla area and arrested one person. The seizure included a substantial quantity of MD (mephedrone) and charas.

Accused Identified as 24-Year-Old Sahil Junaid Ansari from Bhiwandi

The accused has been identified as Sahil Junaid Ansari, 24, a resident of Bhiwandi in Thane district. According to police, he had come to Mumbai to deliver the drugs.

High-Speed Car with Black Tints Leads to Major Drug Bust

The operation was carried out during routine patrolling by Byculla police constables Amol Bhabad, Gangurde, and Bhoye near the Rani Baug junction. The officers spotted a high-speed car with black-tinted windows moving suspiciously.

When they signaled the driver to stop, he appeared nervous and gave evasive answers during questioning. A search of the car led to the recovery of drugs from the possession of Sahil Ansari, including a small quantity of charas and a mobile phone.

1.7 Kg of Mephedrone and Charas Recovered During Vehicle Check

Further inspection of the vehicle revealed four packets containing white powder suspected to be MD. In total, police recovered 1,710.3 grams of MD and 18.07 grams of charas. The estimated street value of the seized narcotics is approximately ₹3.46 crore.

Byculla Police Station has registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and taken Ansari into custody. Officials are now probing whether the accused is part of a larger drug syndicate and who the intended recipients of the consignment in Mumbai were.
