Mumbai Crime: Anti-Corruption Bureau Arrests BMC's R/South Ward Sanitary Inspector For Taking ₹30,000 Bribe From Hotelier

Mumbai: The Mumbai Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials have caught a sanitary inspector of the BMC's R/South ward for allegedly demanding a bribe from a hotelier.

Health Dept Officer Demanded Licences During Restaurant Visit

According to the ACB, the complainant has been running a kitchen in the hotel of his friend for the last one year. On 24/06/2025, an officer from the Health Department, R/South ward of the BMC had visited the complainant's restaurant and had demanded a health license and an eating house license from the complainant.

Since the complainant did not have the said licenses, the said officer seized the materials from the complainant's restaurant and asked the complainant to close the restaurant.

Sanitary Inspector Demanded ₹40,000 to Keep Restaurant Open

When the complainant went to the R/South ward office on 28/06/2025 to release the seized materials, Ganesh Kadam, sanitation inspector, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 to keep the restaurant operating.

Complainant Approaches ACB; Bribe Amount Settled at ₹30,000

As per the complainant, Kadam also allegedly told him that if the money is not paid, he will not allow the restaurant to run. However, since the complainant did not want to bribe public servant, he visited the ACB office on 01/07/2025 and filed a written complaint.

In accordance with the said complaint, when verification was conducted by the ACB, on 09/07/2025, it was found that Kadam had demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant and after negotiations, he had agreed to accept the bribe of Rs 30,000

Inspector Caught Red-Handed in ACB Trap Operation

Accordingly, during the trap operation conducted on Wednesday, Ganesh Kadam was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant. A case was registered against Kadam under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
