Mumbai Crime: 17-Year-Old Delivery Boy Shot At Over Medicine Payment Dispute In Lower Parel; Accused Arrested

Mumbai: In a shocking incident reported on Saturday, a 17-year-old delivery boy was allegedly shot at in Lower Parel during a dispute over the payment of an online medicine order. The accused, identified as Saurabh Kumar Abhinash Singh, has been arrested by the N.M. Joshi Marg Police on charges of attempt to murder.

According to the police, the complainant, a resident of Kapad Bazar in Mahim, works as a delivery boy for an online medicine distribution company. On Saturday, he went to deliver medicines to Singh's home on the 8th floor of Prakash Cotton Mill in Hanuman Gali, Lower Parel. The order was placed with a cash-on-delivery option, as reported by Loksatta.

Upon receiving the package, Singh reportedly claimed that he had received fewer medicines than ordered and refused to pay the full amount. An argument followed. Singh shut the door, but the delivery boy continued to ask for payment and rang the doorbell multiple times.

Frustrated, Singh allegedly brought out a large black air gun, pointed it at the boy's chest, and threatened him, saying: "Get out of here or I’ll shoot you." He then allegedly fired a shot in the boy's direction. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, according to the report.

Police later seized the weapon, identified as an air gun, which will be sent to the forensic lab for ballistic testing.

Based on the complaint, the N.M. Joshi Marg Police have registered a case under IPC Sections 109, 125, 351(2), 352, as well as under the Indian Arms Act (Sections 3 and 25) and Maharashtra Police Act (Section 37(1), 135).

Police stated that Singh knowingly aimed and fired the weapon despite understanding the risk of serious injury or death. As a result, he was arrested and charged with attempted murder. Further investigation is underway, as reported.
