Mumbai: A 31-year-old woman from Andheri East died after being crushed against a wall by a tempo at the Chunawala Compound in Andheri-MIDC on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 7.15 p.m. when Sangeeta Kawale was leaving from her workplace after her 7 p.m. shift.
The MIDC police have arrested Mohammed Salauddin Zafar Ansari, 50, the tempo driver, who initially fled the scene. Kawale sustained severe injuries to her right hand, resulting in fatal bleeding.
"Kawale died after being crushed against a wall by the tempo that entered the premises. The driver has been arrested," said a police officer of MIDC police.
Kawale worked part-time at System Printers, located on Condivita Road within the Chunawala Compound. Her husband, Sainath Kawale, stated in the police complaint "My wife worked part-time, starting her shift at 1.30 p.m. and finishing at 7 p.m.
On December 30, at 7.35 p.m., I received a call from Bipin Madane, who informed me about the accident. He said my wife had sustained serious injuries to her right hand."
According to Sainath, the tempo was speeding when it struck his wife as she was leaving the premises at 7.15 p.m. She was rushed to Mukunda Hospital in Andheri East for treatment.
However, due to the unavailability of doctors, she was transferred to Seven Hills Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.
"The delay in receiving medical attention, coupled with excessive bleeding and anxiety during the search for help, worsened her condition," Sainath mentioned in the FIR.
A police official added that Kawale fainted due to fear, anxiety, and chest pain before reaching the hospital at 8.15 p.m., an hour after the accident.
