Mumbai Airport Customs Arrest Chennai Man For Smuggling Hydroponic Weed Worth ₹90 Lakh From Bangkok; Bail Granted
The Mumbai Airport Customs officials on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly smuggling Hydroponic Weed worth Rs 90 lakh from Bangkok. The contraband was cleverly concealed in the trolley bag by the passenger. The arrested person has been identified as Sangish Khan Kuppai Kani Khan Sahib, a resident of Chennai.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Airport Customs officials on Tuesday arrested a man for allegedly smuggling Hydroponic Weed worth Rs 90 lakh from Bangkok. The contraband was cleverly concealed in the trolley bag by the passenger. The arrested person has been identified as Sangish Khan Kuppai Kani Khan Sahib, a resident of Chennai.
According to the Customs sources, specific intelligence was received that one passenger Sangish Khan Kuppai Kani Khan Sahib might be carrying some narcotic substance covered under Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, concealed in his baggage.
The said passenger who had arrived at CSMI Airport, Mumbai from Bangkok on Monday was intercepted in arrival hall at T2, CSMI Airport, Mumbai after he had crossed green channel.
Upon opening his check-in bag Customs officers found four packets containing a green coloured dry leafy substance in lump form. The officers then asked the Sangish Khan Kuppai Kani Khan Sahib about the contents of the said transparent sealed packets to which he replied that it was 'Hydroponic Weed'.
The officers then tested the said substance which tested positive for the presence of narcotic drug purported to be Hydroponic weed, a substance covered under NDPS Act. Based upon the reasonable belief that Sangish Khan Kuppai Kani Khan Sahib has committed an offence, he was arrested under the provisions of NDPS Act, on Tuesday.
"The preliminary investigation carried out so far in accordance with the law and the statement given by the accused disclose involvement of other persons who are yet to be traced in the commission of the offence in relation to the smuggling of 907 grams of Hydroponic Weeds/Marijuana/Ganja. As the investigation in the case is at a very preliminary stage, efforts are on to identify and apprehend key associates of the accused," said a Customs source.
