India’s first high-speed rail project, popularly known as the Bullet Train, is currently under construction along the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor. This ambitious project marks a major leap for India’s railway infrastructure, aiming to provide world-class speed, safety, and comfort in rail transport. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is being built by the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL). This company is fully owned by Indian Railways, under the Ministry of Railways and the Government of India.
The bullet train will run at a top speed of 320 km/h, making it one of the fastest trains in the world. This high-speed rail will bring a huge improvement in travel time, comfort, and railway modernisation in India.
The train system will use advanced Japanese technology, known as Shinkansen, which is famous for its safety, speed, and reliability. This includes everything from the trains (rolling stock) to signalling systems and railway design standards.
To support the ‘Make in India’ initiative, much of this technology will be shared and manufactured in India through a technology transfer process. That means Indian companies will also learn and produce parts of the system, helping boost local industries.
