Mumbai: 56-Year-Old Woman Found Dead In Powai After Alleged Assault By Husband

Mumbai: A 56-year-old woman lawyer living in Powai was murdered on Sunday. The Powai Police have arrested her husband Rajiv Chandrabhan in connection with the case.

About The Case

The deceased has been identified as Savitridevi Chandrabhan. She had been living separately from her husband, who had been trying to persuade her to reconcile. However, when she refused, he allegedly smothered her with a pillow in a fit of rage.

Savitridevi Chandrabhan, a lawyer, lived alone in the Raheja building in Powai. She was found unconscious in her house on Sunday afternoon. Locals alerted the police control room, after which she was rushed to hospital. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival. She had died of suffocation. Suspecting murder, the police began an investigation.

At the time of the incident, Savitri was alone at home. She had been living separately from her husband Rajiv for the past year. When questioned by the police, Rajiv initially denied having any connection with her. However, during sustained interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the murder. The police have registered a case of murder against Rajiv Chandrabhan.

Savitridevi and Rajiv had earlier been living together in the Raheja Vihar area of Powai. Rajiv had retired from a private airline two years ago, after which frequent disputes arose between the couple. Because of this, they began living separately: Rajiv in Marol and Savitri in Powai. In recent weeks, Rajiv had been trying to convince Savitri to resume living together. On Sunday afternoon, he went to her house to speak with her again. When she refused, an argument broke out. In a fit of anger, Rajiv allegedly covered her mouth with a pillow, causing her death by suffocation.
