Mumbai: A 45-year-old policeman, Mukesh Dev, was found dead at the New Police Lines quarters in Andheri East on Saturday. Dev was attached to the Local Arms Unit, Marol.

The police received an intimation about the incident at around 4:20 PM. A mobile van from the Andheri Police Station was immediately dispatched to the police quarters near Agarkar Bus Depot in Andheri East. Upon arrival, they found that Dev had hanged himself inside his house, as reported by The Times of India.

With help from neighbours, police rushed him to Cooper Hospital, Juhu, where doctors declared him dead at 5:15 PM. An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to the suspected suicide.

17-Year-Old Girl Dies By Suicide After Jumping From the 23rd Floor

In another news story related to suicide, a 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide on Thursday in Aarey, Goregaon East, after jumping from the 23rd floor of the Oberoi Square complex. Preliminary investigation indicates that she had been suffering from depression and was undergoing medical treatment.

No suicide note was found at the scene. The Aarey Police have registered an accidental death report (ADR). Police officials also noted that this is the fourth such incident reported in the same residential complex in the last six months.

The girl resided with her family on the 23rd floor of C Wing in Oberoi Square. She was a Class 11 Arts student at a reputed college, and her father is a well-known construction professional.

On Thursday afternoon, she was in her bedroom studying, while her mother and grandparents were also at home. Her father was out at work. Around 3:30 PM, she allegedly jumped from her bedroom window. She was declared dead on the spot due to the impact of the fall.

According to Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Patil of the Aarey Police Station, the teenager had been battling depression for several years and was receiving treatment at Ambani Hospital. A case of unnatural death has been registered, and further inquiry is underway.
