A 20-year-old youth has been arrested by the Pydhonie Police for allegedly abetting the suicide of a college student from Masjid Bunder. The girl, who was pursuing a banking degree from a Charni Road college, died by suicide at her residence on March 8.

The deceased was living with her parents—her father, a construction businessman, and her mother, a homemaker. Police have identified the accused as Soham Bengde, a person known to the girl and her family. A case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to abetment of suicide, has been registered.

According to officials, the girl returned home as usual on the day of the incident but later stopped responding to her parents’ calls. Alarmed, they contacted neighbours, who found her hanging inside the house. She was rushed to Noor Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

In the days following her death, the family examined CCTV footage, which showed Soham and another female outside their house on the same day. They also reviewed the girl’s mobile phone and found multiple calls and messages from Bengde. Investigations further revealed that Bengde had suspicions about the girl's friendship with another male, which had caused friction between the two. Based on digital evidence and the family’s complaint, police arrested Soham Bengde on Saturday. Further inquiries into the case are ongoing.
