Mumbai, Dec 20: The Mumbai police launched a probe after two motorcycle-borne allegedly conducted a recce of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut's bungalow in Bhandup on Friday.
Eight police teams have been formed to probe the matter. However, no formal FIR has been registered in this case yet, said a police official from the Kanjurmarg police station.
The police have begun analysing CCTV footage from Raut's residence and nearby areas to identify the suspects. On Friday, Raut and his family informed the police about the alleged surveillance of their residences in Mumbai and Delhi, as well as the Saamana office.
Efforts are underway to gather information about their identities.
Additionally, Raut has lodged a similar complaint with the Delhi Police regarding the surveillance. However, no FIR has been registered in Delhi either.
Reacting to the incident, Raut said, “The Saamana office has been recced, and so has my residence in Mumbai. Uddhav Thackeray is in touch with the authorities. There may be others planning actions similar to those of Santosh Deshmukh. Let’s see how this unfolds. It’s clear that there is no law and order left in Maharashtra,” Raut remarked.
Sanjay Raut’s brother, Sunil Raut, was reportedly at home during the incident. He said, “They were recording on their mobile phones. When confronted, they fled. The entire incident is captured on my home’s CCTV cameras. The situation is highly suspicious. My house has two gates; after stopping at the front gate, they went to the back gate as well. They seemed to have some malicious intent. Considering the brutal murder of Baba Siddique in Mumbai, I informed the police to prevent any such incident here. The police are investigating. We have been asking for security for years, but it hasn’t been provided. If anything goes wrong here, the government will be fully responsible.”
The incident has sparked discussions in political circles.
Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray met with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused. He also requested an increase in security for Sanjay Raut and heightened vigilance outside his house.
