Mumbai: A 10-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide in Madrasa in Malvani on Saturday. His body was found hanging in a madrasa around 5:30 PM, in what police suspect to be a case of suicide. The boy’s body was discovered near the bathroom, hanging by his shirt from a ceiling hook.
According to police reports, the boy climbed a kitchen wall before taking the drastic step. Preliminary investigations suggest that the boy may have been impacted by frequent arguments between his parents, which could have led to emotional distress.
No suicide note was found at the scene, and police have ruled out foul play, registering the incident as an accidental death on the same day.
The boy lived in Malvani and attended a madrasa in nearby Malad along with his elder brother. On Saturday evening, while other students went out to play, the boy reportedly stayed back, locked the door from inside of the room which was attached with the bathroom, and ended his life.
When the students returned, they found the bathroom door locked. They peered inside through a gap and saw the boy hanging. They immediately alerted the teachers, who rushed him to Shatabdi Hospital, where he was declared dead.
A police officer stated, "Preliminary investigations have not indicated any foul play. The exact cause of death will be determined after the postmortem report is received. The investigation is ongoing."
The deceased and his brother stayed at the madrasa and with their parents on alternate days. Police said they questioned his brother, but he has not revealed anything about his brother's drastic decision.
