MMRDA Floats Tender To Transport Metro Cars For Lines 4 & 4A, Paving Way For Trial Runs

With trial operations on Mumbai Metro Lines 2B and 9 already underway, the city’s metro network is gearing up for its next major expansion. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has floated an e-tender for the transportation of commissioned and un-commissioned metro rail cars and associated machinery for Metro Lines 4 and 4A signaling that trial runs on these routes may begin shortly.
The Estimated Contract Value is Rs 8.28 crore (excluding GST) and the Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) is Rs 16.56 lakh. Completion Period is of 24 months (extendable by 12 months). Tender Submission Deadline is July 30, 2025.
Metro Line 4 stretches 32.3 km from Wadala to Kasarvadavali, and is fully elevated with 30 stations. Designed to connect the Eastern Express Highway, Central Railway, Monorail, and upcoming Metro Lines 2B, 5, and 6, it aims to cut travel time by up to 75% across Mumbai’s eastern suburbs.
Metro Line 4A is a 2.7 km extension from Kasarvadavali to Gaimukh, adding two more stations and expanding connectivity deeper into the Thane region.

Once operational, Metro Lines 4 and 4A are expected to play a pivotal role in decongesting traffic, improving intercity connectivity, and reshaping the daily commute for Mumbaikars across the eastern corridor.
