Mira-Bhayandar: After equipping constables with body-worn cameras (BWC), to enhance transparency and accountability in their interactions with motorists, the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate has launched an Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered multi-violation detection system for the traffic department.
The implementation of the cutting-edge technology aims to improve road management and motorists’ safety in a major way. Designed to automatically detect multiple traffic violations with high precision and reliability, the pilot project of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) was launched in March, this year and the first e-challan was generated by the system on 7, April.
Apart from real-time detection of violations like -helmetless and triple seat riding, the other important feature which has been implemented in the first phase includes Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) which captures and reads vehicle number plates with high accuracy, enabling quick and traceable enforcement actions against violators.
“The AI-powered automation, eliminates the need for manual intervention which will significantly enhance speed, accuracy, transparency and accountability in law enforcement, thus minimizing the risk of road accidents.” said police commissioner- Madhukar Pandey during the demo session of the system at the MBVV headquarters in Mira Road on Friday.
