Maharashtra Weather Update: IMD Issues Rainfall Warning From July 5–8; Orange Alert For Several Districts, Yellow Alert For Mumbai

Mumbai: The state is expected to receive heavy rainfall over the weekend as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued warning for increased rainfall activity from July 5 to 8.

"Widespread rainfall activity with Heavy to Very Heavy rainfall at a few places is very likely over Konkan and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during the period," the warning said.

Following this, several districts are places under Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rains, including the ghats region, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri. Mumbai is placed under Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places. There is also a possibility of lightning and thunder accompanied by occasional gusty winds reaching 45-55 kmph this period.

As per local weather forecast for the next 48 hours, the maximum and minimum temperature in Mumbai city and suburbs will remain around 31°C and 26°C respectively. The skies will be generally cloudy with high chances of moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places and possibility of occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated places.

On Friday, Mumbai received moderate showers. I'm the period of 24 hours (Thursday 10 pm to Friday 10 pm), some of the weather stations which recorded comparatively high rainfall in Mumbai included: Mulund Check Naka (35 mm), Tagore Nagar Vikhroli (30 mm), M West ward Chembur (27 mm), Pratiksha Nagar Sion (29 mm), Nariyalwadi Santacruz (34 mm), Paspoli Powai (33 mm), Versova pumping station (28 mm), Ananad Nagar Dahisar (27 mm), Eksar Borivali (25 mm) among others.

As July 3 so far this season, Colaba observatory has recorded 666 mm rainfall, which is 31.83% of average annual rainfall. While Santacruz observatory has recorded 583 mm rainfall, which is 25.13% of the average annual rainfall.
