Maharashtra Offers To Waive Fitment Fee For Bulk HSRP Installations At Your Housing Society, But There's 1 Condition; Check Details

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Transport Commissionerate has introduced a new initiative to simplify the installation of high-security registration plates (HSRP) for older vehicles. Vehicle owners from the same society or building can now opt for bulk registration, and if over 25 applicants register together, the official agency will visit the society to install the HSRP on-site, as per reports. This initiative eliminates the need for vehicle owners to visit designated centers and waives the fitment fee that was previously charged for home delivery services.

Earlier, owners who opted for home installation had to pay an additional fitment fee of Rs. 125 for two-wheelers and Rs. 250 for four-wheelers. However, under this new system, society registrations will be exempt from these charges. The move aims to make the registration process more convenient and reduce congestion at registration centers.

According to Transport officials, the fixed HSRP installation charges remain unchanged: Rs. 531 for two-wheelers, Rs. 590 for three-wheelers, and Rs. 879 for four-wheelers and commercial vehicles. The installation is being carried out by independent agencies, with regional and sub-regional transport offices divided into three operational sections. So far, over 18 lakh vehicle owners have installed HSRP, with an estimated 10,000 new registrations occurring daily.

The government has also warned that fines may be imposed on vehicle owners who delay HSRP installation. As a result, motorists are encouraged to complete their registrations promptly. By opting for society-based registrations, they can save additional costs and avoid last-minute rushes.

Deadline Pushed To June 30

Initially, the deadline for installing HSRPs on vehicles registered before 2019 was set for April 30. However, due to slow implementation, it has now been extended to June 30. Authorities have noted that a large number of old vehicles are still operating without the mandatory tamper-proof plates.

To ensure compliance, the Maharashtra Transport Department has instructed all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) and Deputy RTOs to conduct awareness campaigns across their jurisdictions. These campaigns will inform vehicle owners about the benefits of HSRP and the potential penalties for non-compliance.
