Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is set to receive 620 new electric buses by the end of 2025, following a revised supply schedule agreed upon with Olectra Greentech Limited. This comes after significant delays in the delivery of buses under a large-scale procurement agreement.
MSRTC had initially placed an order for approximately 5,150 electric buses with Olectra Greentech under a wet lease model aimed at modernizing and greening the state's public transport fleet. However, as of now, the company has managed to deliver only around 220 buses, far behind schedule.
The delay prompted MSRTC Chairman and Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik to announce the cancellation of the contract on May 26. However, a subsequent meeting between senior MSRTC officials and representatives from Olectra led to a resolution and the formulation of a new delivery timeline.
According to sources, under the revised plan, Olectra Greentech will now supply 620 buses in a phased manner by the end of 2025, 2,100 buses during 2026, and the remaining buses by 2027.
