Navi Mumbai: In light of heightened national security concerns, the District Magistrate of Raigad, Kishan N. Jawale, has issued a temporary ban on the use of drones and other aerial devices across key locations in the district. The order will remain in effect from May 17 to June 3.
About The Ban
The decision comes after intelligence reports indicated that terrorist organizations have increased the use of drones following India's recent military operation—Operation Sindoor—which targeted and destroyed terrorist bases in Pakistan. As a precautionary measure, authorities have moved swiftly to tighten aerial surveillance and prohibit any unauthorized aerial activity in the region.
The ban includes the use of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliding, paramotors, hang gliders, and hot air balloons in and around sensitive and important locations within Raigad district.
The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, is aimed at maintaining law and order and preventing any potential misuse of aerial platforms for unlawful activities. Individuals found violating the ban will face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, said a notification issued by Raigad Collector.
The District Magistrate has directed all concerned authorities, including the police, sub-divisional magistrates, and information officers, to ensure strict enforcement of the order.
