Washim: A shocking incident has come forward from Maharashtra's Washim region where a social media status led to a violent scenario between two groups, where the use of sword, stone pelting, and rods was used in the fight that took place in the late evening of Thursday in Washim's Vyawahare galli.

As reported by IANS, a disagreement over a social media post intensified into a violent confrontation between two factions, featuring stone-throwing and swords. The violence occurred on a broader level, causing injuries to some, while vehicles were also damaged during the altercation as well. The event caused chaos in the region. Officers acted quickly and are examining surveillance video. The exact details behind the social media post and its contents are yet to be confirmed.

A resident from Vyawahare galli shared with a TV9 reporter that the event occurred around 9:30 PM on Thursday night, as the first screams rang out, leading to chaos where he observed numerous individuals throwing stones, bricks, rods, and swords in conflict with each other. The brutality resulted in the thrashing of the medical shop's board as well as his own bike, which was struck by people bearing rods. When he came downstairs, some gang members who were instigating violence headed towards Rajiv Chowk, after which the police reached the location and intervened promptly.

The resident also mentioned further that these issues have been happening frequently and asked authorities to take action against these issues. Further updates about the incident are awaited.

Increase Of Communal Unrest In Maharashtra

Maharashtra has faced 823 communal tension cases this year, driven by calls to demolish Aurangzeb's grave and misinformation on social media. Areas impacted include Nandurbar, Pune (Rural), Ratnagiri, and Sangli. In 2024, there were 4,836 communal offenses related to Hindu-Muslim conflicts, including 371 cases of religious slurs according to reports.
