Maharashtra News: 2 Booked For Transporting Excessively Loaded Goats From Gujarat To Slaughterhouses In Mumbai

Thane: The Kasarwadavli police booked two individuals for allegedly transporting excessive numbers of goats without adequate space, ventilation, or healthcare provisions. The accused have been identified as Imtiyaz Abdul Multani and Multani Sharif Gafur; both are drivers by profession and originally hail from Gujrat.

The police said they loaded about 178 goats, including sheep goats, in a truck with the number GJ-31-T-7460, and a total of 234 goats were loaded in another truck bearing the number GJ-31-T-3136. A complaint was filed by Juee Kudtarkar, an animal activist.

As per the FIR, an NGO that deals with animal welfare received information about it on April 25. It alerted the local police about it. The police reached the spot, and upon checking two trucks, they found that excessive goats were loaded. Subsequently, they took them to the police station for inquiry.

During the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the goats were transported from Gujrat to slaughterhouses in Devanar, Mumbai. Upon questioning the drivers, they stated that only 150 goats were loaded on each truck.

However, upon checking, it was found that excessive goats were loaded without proper space, ventilation, and health check up. They found that two goats had died. The police called the veterinary doctor for a check-up and conducted a post-mortem of the two dead goats.

The goats and sheep were handed over to the custody of an NGO located in Sangamner in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, for health and safety. The total worth of the goats amounts to over Rs 20 lakh, and two trucks were seized. The police registered a case under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Motor Vehicle Act.
