Mumbai: A farmer from Bondgaon village in Buldhana district's Shegaon tehsil recently experienced alarming hair loss, losing all his hair within days after an itchy scalp. He is one of over 55 residents from Bondgaon, Kalwad, and Hingna, who reported sudden severe baldness in just a week, with health officials fearing more cases may arise.
On January 2, the issue began when three women faced significant hair fall, which preliminary health center examinations linked to a specific hair-washing product. As more similar cases emerged, Bondgaon’s sarpanch alerted district health authorities.
Villagers expressed concern, noting that even gentle contact led to clumps of hair falling out. Despite seeking help from local hospitals, confusion and lack of understanding among medical staff prevailed, delaying treatment.
In response to the alarming situation, government health officials initiated an investigation. Dr. Deepali Bhayekar shared that samples of water, hair, and skin were collected for analysis, with initial attention on water quality. Concerns among villagers are high, fearing serious health risks or environmental contamination.
