In preparation for Ganeshotsav 2025, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will run 5,000 additional buses between August 23 and September 7 for Mumbai-based devotees travelling to Konkan. The announcement was made by Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik during a meeting at Mantralaya with key MSRTC officials, including VC and MD Dr Madhav Kusekar.
Minister Sarnaik noted that Ganpati Bappa holds special significance for Konkan residents and MSRTC has long upheld the tradition of serving them during the festival.
“The bond between Konkan, Ganpati Bappa and ST is sacred. Every year, we run special buses regardless of profit or loss,” he said.
Reservations for these extra buses can be made through the official website (npublic.msrtcors.com), at bus depots, or via the MSRTC mobile app.
MSRTC will operate these special buses from major hubs in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and other divisions. Notably, group reservations will begin from July 22, with significant fare concessions.
There will be a 100% fare waiver for senior citizens and 50% discount for Amrut senior citizens and women.
This year’s rollout exceeds last year’s figure of 4,300 buses. The decision was also inspired by the massive success of the Ashadhi Ekadashi Yatra, during which MSRTC operated 5,200 extra buses and received overwhelming public response.
To ensure smooth operations, MSRTC will deploy repair teams along key highways in Konkan and ensure round-the-clock staffing at bus stands and halts, under the supervision of senior officers.
