Mumbai: The swearing-in ceremony for Maharashtra’s new government has been scheduled for the afternoon of December 5 at Azad Maidan, as per reports quoting state's Protocol Department officials. This event marks the formal transition of power following the recent elections. The ceremony’s confirmation strongly suggests that the Chief Minister will be from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), emphasizing its dominant role in forming the government.

A critical meeting of the BJP’s legislative party is set for December 4, where the Chief Minister-elect will be finalised, as per a Mid-day report. This decision is expected to draw significant attention, with the party evaluating its leadership options. The announcement of the swearing-in date has intensified political activity as various stakeholders position themselves ahead of the new government’s formation.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat stated earlier today that the party should be awarded the crucial home department in the new government. He also expressed concerns about attempts to sideline caretaker Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde. Shirsat stressed the importance of equitable distribution of key portfolios and hinted at ongoing discussions to secure a fair share for the Shiv Sena.

Shinde Leaves For His Native Village In Satara

On November 29, Shinde left for his native village in Satara following meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda in Delhi. During these discussions, it was reportedly conveyed that Maharashtra would have a BJP Chief Minister, reinforcing the party’s leading role in the coalition.

Both the BJP and Shiv Sena have offered differing explanations for the delay in government formation. Reports citing a senior Shiv Sena source clarified that the party had already communicated its willingness to support the BJP’s leadership choice. “We have openly declared that we are not a hindrance to the selection of the CM. The ball is now in the BJP’s court,” a source told The Hindu.

As the BJP gears up to finalize its leadership decision, the distribution of key ministerial portfolios remains a point of negotiation. With the swearing-in date confirmed, all eyes are on the December 4 meeting, which will likely set the stage for the new government’s structure and leadership dynamics.
