Maharashtra Election Results 2024: NCP Leader Chhagan Bhujbal Pushes For Equal Cabinet Berths With Shiv Sena
Ever since it endorsed the BJP's claim on the chief ministership, the NCP led by Ajit Pawar has been aiming for the No. 2 position in the three-party Mahayuti. On Tuesday the party made another attempt by staking a claim on an equal number of cabinet berths with the Shiv Sena.

Mumbai: Ever since it endorsed the BJP's claim on the chief ministership, the NCP led by Ajit Pawar has been aiming for the No. 2 position in the three-party Mahayuti. On Tuesday the party made another attempt by staking a claim on an equal number of cabinet berths with the Shiv Sena.
“Comparing the strike rate at number two, we should get an equal number of cabinet berths with the Shiv Sena,” Chhagan Bhujbal, a senior leader of the NCP said. “The number of the ministers according to the strike rate and as many cabinet berths, the Shiv Sena will get our share,” he demanded while talking to media persons.
Bhujbal's demand is significant, following his statement on BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis’s claim for the chief ministership. “Considering the performance, it's quite natural that the post will go to Fadnavis,” he had said. The NCP was quick to back Fadnavis for the top post soon after the results of the state assembly elections were announced.
According to the sources from Mahayuti, the NCP is slowly moving to occupy position No 2 in the state cabinet which should have gone to the Shiv Sena. The rapport between the NCP and the BJP state leadership is better than that of the Shiv Sena, say the sources.
Considering the strike rate of the state assembly, the BJP tops the chart with 88.59% when the party won 132 seats out of 149 it contested. It is followed by the Shiv Sena, 70.30% by winning 57 seats from the 87 the party contested. The NCP strike rate was 69.49% as the party won 41 out of 59 seats it contested. It is contrary to the claim made by Bhujbal.
Amidst the claims and counter claims over the power-sharing formula between the Mahayuti partners, it is said that the BJP will induct 10 faces on Thursday while five each will be picked from the Shiv Sena and the NCP.
