Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspected the IT security system in the 'Smart Bus' operated by the State Transport (ST) Corporation on the Thane–Nagpur route on Wednesday. The inspection highlighted a major step forward in passenger safety and driver assistance technology for long-distance buses in the state.
Equipped with cutting-edge features, the Smart Bus includes an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), driver observation cameras, and 360-degree blind spot cameras, all aimed at enhancing road safety. These systems are designed to help prevent accidents by alerting drivers of potential hazards and ensuring continuous driver monitoring.
In the passenger area, two surveillance cameras, one at the front and one at the rear, have been installed to improve onboard security. Additionally, the bus features a driver assistance display, mobile GPS tracking, LCD screens, and a public announcement system, making it a technologically integrated transport solution.
During the inspection, officials demonstrated how the system enhances safety for all passengers, especially women. For instance, if the driver is detected to be drowsy or under the influence of alcohol, a siren will alert the passengers, ensuring their safety while travelling.
