Thane: Thane celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor as Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hoisted the national flag at the District Administration Office. In his address, Shinde reflected on the struggles and sacrifices behind India’s freedom, highlighting Maharashtra’s significant financial contribution in shaping India into the world’s fourth-largest economy.

Referring to Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attacks in Jammu & Kashmir, Shinde stated that Pakistan had attempted to wipe away the ‘Sindoor’ from Indian women’s foreheads. He expressed concern that India, through the operation, appeared to bow to the will of Pakistan and terrorists, underlining the need for strong national resolve.

Eknath Shinde also hoisted flag at the Shiv Sena office in Thane at the stroke of midnight. During the celebration of Indian Independence Day, following the custom initiated by late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe in Thane city, the flag hoisting ceremony occurred at midnight in the Thane city central Shiv Sena branch premises, as it does every year, with immense enthusiasm. During this event, the national flag was honored, and the participants were welcomed in celebration of Independence Day.

On this occasion, the Spanish castellers who visited Thane for Pro-Govinda and Dahi Handi created a tier and honored the Indian national flag.

Politicians like MP Naresh Mhaske, ex-MLA Ravindra Phatak, Shiv Sena Secretary Ram Repale, former Mayor Ashok Vaiti, Shiv Sena Thane District Sangh Tika Meenakshi Shinde, ex-Deputy Mayor Pallavi Kadam, along with all former corporators, current corporators, office bearers, and numerous Shiv Sainiks of Shiv Sena were in attendance.
