Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis Sets December Deadline For Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial, Pushes Urban Development Goals
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to complete the Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial at Indu Mills by December this year. With the first phase of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray’s memorial also complete, he called for a plan for the annual maintenance of the two projects.

Chairing the 100-day programme for the Urban Development Department (UDD), Fadnavis asked the officials to strengthen municipal corporations across the state on corporate lines. UDD’s additional chief secretary Asim Kumar Gupta said this is achievable by empowering the planning authorities, besides focusing on road development in 3,500 villages near big cities and digitising the process of granting building permits. Fadnavis noted that capitalintensive infrastructure development needs innovative financial options.

Fadnavis’ 100-day plan involves nine key ministries, with deadline-compliant tasks for secretaries. He has directed the women and child development department to effectively implement a malnutrition eradication campaign not only in rural areas but also in urban slum regions, particularly in the slums of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. He asked the department to coordinate with local selfgovernment bodies for an actionable plan to effectively implement schemes designed for women and children.
With a growing number of cyber frauds across the country, he directed full-steam implementation of the state security project, which includes governance, risk, and compliance based on artificial intelligence. Fadnavis has instructed the creation of new positions for the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, acceleration of setting up new armed outposts in Naxal-affected districts, and the drafting of a Maharashtra Prison Manual akin to the Centre’s guidelines.
