Palghar: A concerning video has emerged from Nakadpada village in Maharashtra's Palghar district, showing dozens of children from the ashram school in Gargaon risking their lives daily to cross a fast-flowing river on their way to school.
The ashram school in Gargaon is just a two kilometres from Nakadpada village. According to the rules governing ashram schools, hostel facilities are only provided to students who stay away from school.
During the monsoon season, the route becomes slippery and risky. The children are forced to navigate this dangerous path without any safety measures in place.
The viral video shows children with school bags cautiously crossing the gushing river, holding hands to support each other. One of the small child can be seen lifted on the back.
If they choose to go by road, they will have to walk around five kilometres. These children come from poor economic background, so they do not have any alternate mode of transportation. They are unable to cover the distance on foot due to time constraints, so they opt for the dangerous river crossing instead.
